On Saturday, Kanye West re-re-reannounced his campaign for president of the United States of America. The message, posted on Twitter, came with some standard political pablum ("We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future!"), but the internet was sent berserk by the hashtag "#2020Vision," which seemed to imply that West intended to take on President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
There were many skeptics who believed that West was pulling some kind of stunt, and that argument has been boosted by the fact that West hasn't filed any of the paperwork required to run for president with the FEC (Federal Election Commission), according to a report by BBC News. The only candidate bearing the name "Kanye West" appears to be a joke: someone called Kanye Deez Nuts West filed in 2015 as a Green Party candidate, using the address "1977 Golddigger Avenue, Suite Yeezus." Deez Nuts West has raised exactly $0 in donations.
Even though filing deadlines have passed in many different states, West could ostensibly launch a write-in campaign for president. The FADER has reached out to Kanye West's representative for more information.
Last week, Kanye West shared the song "Wash Us In The Blood" featuring Travis Scott from his upcoming album God's Country. He also appeared on Ty Dolla $ign's song "Ego Death," also featuring FKA twigs, Skrillex, and serpentwithfeet.
