Kehlani's new music video for "Can I" is out now. The clip stars a number of sex workers performing for Kehlani via livestream as she blesses them all with tokens. Kehlani described the video as "[an] ode to sex work. honoring sex workers. uplifting their movement." It's similar to Kehlani's video for "Toxic," except this time Kehlani's watching instead of working.
On Thursday morning, Kehlani said that the song's featured artist Tory Lanez would not appear in the music video or on the upcoming deluxe edition of her album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. "Full transparency cuz i believe in that with my following," she wrote without specifically naming Lanez, "his verse is still on the song, the video is solo. new verse on the deluxe." Lanez's verse is in the "Can I" visuals, but he does not receive a credit in the video's title.
The decision to remove Lanez from "Can I" comes after he was arrested on July 14 for carrying a concealed weapon outside of a party. Megan Thee Stallion, who was also present at the party, was taken to the hospital after suffering gunshot wounds in both feet — Lanez has not been named as a suspect in the shooting by police or Megan Thee Stallion, who called initial reports about the shooting "inaccurate" and took to Instagram Live this week to denounce rumors and jokes about the incident. Lanez has not issued a statement since his arrest.
