Watch Cardi B interview Joe Biden about the 2020 election
Cardi spoke to the Democratic presidential candidate for Elle Magazine.
Cardi B, a rapper who is no stranger to political discourse, has connected with presidential candidate Joe Biden to discuss key issues for Elle Magazine. In a video call conversation between the two, they tackled topics like the importance of getting Trump out of office, healthcare reform, and calls for justice in the wake of national protests against police brutality and anti-Black racism.
The pair spoke about the current COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of organized action in containing its spread. "I don't want someone to lie to me and tell me that it’s okay not to wear a mask, that everything is going to be okay," Cardi said. "This is why it is taking so long, this is why other countries are doing better than ours.'"
Cardi went on to say she hopes for universal healthcare, free education, and justice served for Black people killed at the hands of the police. "When it comes to Black people, we are asking for fairness, and we are asking for justice," she told Biden. "That is all. I feel like everything people are asking for is getting interpreted in a very different way. No, it's simple: We just want justice. We want to feel like Americans."
