Musician Robert Glasper has teamed up with H.E.R. and Meshell Ndegeocello for his latest single “Better Than I Imagined." The song, set to appear on his upcoming project Black Radio 3, pairs Glasper's lilting piano with H.E.R's subdued, honeyed vocals. Soul icon Meshell Ndegeocello appears at the end, leaving what sounds like a heartfelt voicemail for a long-lost love.
“‘Better Than I Imagined’ is an ardent dedication to the value and virtue of Black love," Glasper said about the track in a press release. "No one wants a life without love, but we have generations of people in our community who haven’t had the tools to actually be in healthy relationships. It seems like people are finally ready to open their eyes to systemic racism in this country, and if we’re going to talk about it, we have to also talk about how it affects our relationships."
Glasper is also set to perform at the "March on Washington" on August 28, marking the 57th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. Playing a live set alongside frequent collaborator Derrick Hodge, the performance will be televised on MSNBC.
