Watch Moses Sumney’s full “Live from Planet Afropunk” performance
The five-song set contained new versions of songs from græ and Aromanticism.
Afropunk's annual in-person festival was canceled due to the pandemic but a digital edition titled "Planet Afropunk" took over the internet last week. One of the undeniable highlights was Moses Sumney's set, which reinterpreted songs from this year's album græ and his debut project Aromanticism.
The pageantry of the production might be the best I've seen of a COVID virtual concert this year. Sumney starts on the rear of a truck with his band projected on the back for a performance of "Virile" before disembarking and taking a bushy microphone stand for "Conveyor." I won't spoil any more, but I will say that his outfit, BDSM ballerina from the depths of Dracula's castle, is immaculate. Take it in above, and for another stellar Sumney performance, watch his Tiny Desk show.
