Moses Sumney has announced details of a new live album and film of a performance recorded in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Live From Blacklachia is out December 10 and a preview of Sumney performing “Bystanders” (as featured on 2020 album Græ) can be seen above. The filmed aspect of the project was directed by Sumney himself.
Live From Blacklachia was recorded in 2020 and features performances of songs from Sumney's two studio albums, Græ and Aromanticism.
“Over the course of two days, we filmed 14 songs, totally live, the trees as our audience, the grasshoppers our background singers,” Sumney said in a statement. “Live From Blackalachia is a wild imagining of what can happen when we seek not just to reclaim nature, but to reintegrate with it.”
Earlier this year Sumney covered T-Pain's "Can't Believe It" alongside jazz musician Sam Gendel and also appeared on Little Dragon's "The Other Lover." He was also one of a raft of artists who contributed covers to Metallica's Blacklist boxset, recording a version of "The Unforgiven" for the project.
