Cate Le Bon resists the urge to eat the moon on “Moderation”
The Welsh artist will release her next album, Pompeii, on February 4, 2022.
Cate Le Bon has shared a new song called "Moderation" from her upcoming album, Pompeii, out February 4, 2022 on Mexican Summer. The track comes with an exquisitely moody music video directed by Juliana and Nicola Giraffe (of Giraffe Studios) and filmed through a famous window designed by Italian architect Lina Bo Bardi. It follows Pompeii's lead single, "Running Away" — a slower, murkier offering Le Bon dropped in October with its own intense visual accompaniment.
The Welsh singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist is auteurish on "Moderation" and elsewhere on Pompeii, her sixth studio album. She plays every instrument save for saxophone and drums. On the new track, her bass is the driver, with her chiming guitar and double-tracked, harmonizing vocal lines riding along. A simple drum beat keeps time while a sax soars above the mix.
The lyrics reference a 1958 Bo Bardi essay and are, according to Le Bon, "a nod to the daily dilemma of trying to curb inherited and novel habits, when you want to eat the moon."
