Antonio Brown has a new gig lined up with Kanye West. The two connected earlier this month after Justin LaBoy said that West, who recently changed his legal name to Ye, had expressed interest in working on music with the NFL free agent.
In an interview with Complex released today, Brown detailed how he ran into West at a restaurant "totally out of the blue" and hit it off. Brown also revealed that he would be working with Ye on the Donda sports brand, saying that they have "a lot of positive things coming."
"We’re just excited about the Donda sports brand, and making this thing a competitive sports brand to the athletes," Brown said about spending time with West. "I don’t think there’s a lot of fashion lines for athletes, wearing fashionable and comfortable clothes, so with a guy like Kanye West, being able to partner with him and work with him to provide more creative, genius ideas for fashion looks for athletes in general… I’m just grateful for the opportunity here soon, to share what we’ve got with the world. And you guys are hearing it first, we got some exciting things to look forward to this year."
On January 2, Brown took off his jersey and left the field in the third quarter of a game against the New York Jets, ending his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In a statement released a few days later, Brown would accuse the Buccanneers of mischaracterizing his outburst, saying that he was pressured to play while hurt. After leaving the game, Brown released a song, "Pit Not the Palace."
In April 2021, Brown settled a lawsuit accusing him of rape and sexual assault that was filed by his former trainer in 2019. He would be released by the New England Patriots after another woman came forward.
In December, Trevian Kutti, a Chicago publicist for West, was accused of pressuring a Georgia election worker to lie about voter fraud. Donda, West's latest album, notably featured Marilyn Manson, who is currently under investigation for allegations of domestic abuse. Manson has denied these allegations.
Earlier today, West took to Instagram to request that he be given "final edit and approval" on Jeen-Yus, the upcoming three-part Netflix documentary that follows his career. West is reportedly working on a follow-up to Donda, and recently collaborated with The Game on a new song titled "Eazy."
