One of the most anticipated documentaries of the year is Jeen-Yus, a three-part film following Kanye West over 20 years from his humble beginnings in Chicago to music superstardom. The three-part film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, but its wide release date – February 10 for one day in theaters with each part streaming on Netflix weekly beginning on February 16 – seemed in doubt recently. In January, West shared an Instagram post demanding "final edit and approval" of the documentary before its Netflix premiere, writing "Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image."
Whether or not West was granted access to the footage isn't clear, but the release of the film is going ahead as planned. Today, Netflix shared the full trailer for Jeen-yus: A Kanye Trilogy, Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chika Ozah. As outlined in some of the initial reviews, the trailer suggests that the film will focus not just on West's career but his relationship with Coodie. How compelling that is remains to be seen, but there's no doubt that the footage they preview in the trailer is tantalizing stuff. Watch it above.
