The 2022 BRIT Awards took place at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday night with Little Simz, Dave, and Adele all taking home awards. For the first time the awards removed gender categories and instead focused on genre, with Dave winning Best Hip-Hop/Rap/Grime Act and Little Simz collecting the Best New Artist prize, despite releasing her debut mixtape over a decade ago.
Adele, who won three awards including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for 30, referenced the genderless aspect of the awards during one of her acceptance speeches, saying: "I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I do. I am really proud of us."
Many of the winners also performed during the ceremony with Little Simz playing a medley of Sometimes I Might Be Introvert songs "Introvert" and "Woman." She was joined on stage by The Crown actress Emma Corrin for the latter.
Dave, meanwhile, closed the show with a performance of “In the Fire” that saw him joined by Fredo, Ghetts, Meekz, Giggs, and a gospel choir. The performance ended in spectacular fashion with Dave playing a guitar solo as his instrument shot flames into the air.
Elsewhere performances came from Adele, Liam Gallagher, and Ed Sheeran (who was joined by metal band Bring Me The Horizon). Scroll down for a full winners list and their sets.
