It's not hard to hear the Playboi Carti influence in Yeat's music. Hell, it's hard not to read it: I seriously doubt the Portland rapper would be putting umlauts over his "e's" without Carti voice. Carti's Whole Lotta Red was going to cast a long shadow since it was one of the best albums of 2020, and Yeat has been happy to pick up the mantle of "rage rap" popularized by the record.
Today, Yeat shares his new album 2 Alivë as his goodwill in the game is at an all-time high. He's already scored viral hits with “Sorry Bout That” and “Gët Busy,” which sports the ridiculously charming line “This song was already turnt, but here’s a bell.” The album sports Young Thug, Gunna, and Yung Kayo while sticking close to the formula. The beats are aggressive and dreamy, like you're fighting Satan in a nightmare, while Yeat sprawls off in the background counting his blessings and scowling at what passes for yours. Listen below.
