Staples Jr. Singers share two new tracks, announce first shows in 40 years
“I’m Going to a City” and “Somebody Save Me” are the latest singles from the reissue of 1975’s When Do We Get Paid, coming May 6 via Luaka Bop.
Last month, David Byrne's label Luaka Bop announced they'd be re-releasing a 1975 album by a little-known gospel group, the Staples Jr. Singers (no relation to Mavis). When Do We Get Paid is set to arrive May 6, and today, the label has shared two singles from the record.
"I’m Going to a City” and “Somebody Save Me” have joined the project's title track as the group's second and third reissued offerings. Both songs are bluesy jams with deeply Christian themes but universal sentiments.
Along with the new music, the family band — whose remaining members are siblings Annie, A.R.C., and Edward Brown — have shared the dates of their first four shows in over 40 years, all in New York City this coming weekend. Listen to the two new tracks and view the Staples Jr. Singers' upcoming dates below.
