Horse Jumper of Love, Natural Part

Boston slowcore trio Horse Jumper of Love sound both as dreamlike and as empathetic as their name implies on their third studio LP. “It’s melancholy in the most appropriate way,” bassist John Margaris writes in the band’s track-by-track breakdown of the record. He’s referring to its closing cut, but the comment equally applies to the entire project.

Perfume Genius’ sixth studio LP began as the accompaniment for a dance piece, and earlier this week, parts of it were used to soundtrack a surreal short film. It’s an initially jarring step in a different direction from his past work, but not a wrong one. but. It’s dubby, disjointed, and ethereal in all the right ways.

Yaya Bey, Remember Your North Star

Remember Your North Star, the latest album from Brooklyn singer-songwriter Yaya Bey, arrives a little over a year after her EP The Things I Can’t Take With Me. Speaking about the album, Bey recalled reading a tweet that said "Black women have never seen healthy love or have been loved in a healthy way" and that this album serves as her “thesis.” “Even though we need to be all these different types of women, ultimately we do want love: love of self and love from our community. The album is a reminder of that goal,” she says. Remember Your North Star was co-produced alongside Phony Ppl’s Aja Grant and Washington D.C. producer DJ Nativesun and includes previously released singles “keisha” and “alright.”

Tirzah, Highgrade

In 2021, Tirzah was a FADER cover star and released one of our favorite albums of the year — the woozy, cryptic Colourgrade. On her new remix project, Highgrade, she hands the songs from that record over to some of the most prominent figures at the intersection of experimental and popular electronic music and let’s them run with the music.
