Art Moore's self-titled debut album, due later this year, is an expansive yet intimate universe filled with three dimensional characters and well-rounded storytelling. The band, which comprises of Taylor Vick of Boy Scouts alongside Ezra Furman collaborators Sam Durkes and Trevor Brooks, often write about the vast landscape of human connection and new song "Sixish" is a great example of their ability to paint empathetic portraits of experiences that are both tailored to an individual but which feel adaptable to others.
On "Sixish" Vick sings about a painful romantic split where one partner was simply more invested than the other. "You didn’t try to run away from it, But were as far away as you could sit," she sings. "You never were one to deal with shit, I never was one for counterfeit." There's a delicacy to the music, all soft drums and gentle guitar strums reminiscent of an understated take on the Beach House sound, that belie the pain and betrayal that runs throughout.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Vick told The FADER: "When I first heard the instrumental demo version of 'Sixish,' the choruses had a heavy and heartbroken feeling to them so I tried to write lyrics to match that. I wrote about the version of heartbreak that involves a situation where you feel like you’ve got an infinite amount of love and energy to give someone but they’re no longer able to reciprocate."
Art Moore is released on August 5 via ANTI-. The band then open for Ezra Furman in September. Futher details can be found below.
