SOPHIE’s influence has reached the Marvel Universe
Tatiana Maslany says she was inspired by the late artist as she worked on She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.
Tatiana Maslany has described how SOPHIE inspired her as she worked on the new Marvel TV series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. The show, which also stars Mark Ruffalo and Jameela Jamil, debuts on Disney+ today (August 18) and features Maslany as Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner who similarly tranforms into a superpowered hulk.
Speaking to Variety in a new interview, Maslany said that SOPHIE's ability to meld pop melodies and hardsher textures in her music acted as a jumping off point for her preparation in tackling the two-sided character.
"Musically, SOPHIE just lives in this place that I always want to live in, but there’s a poppiness and femininity combined with these clashing industrial sounds,” Maslany said. "Her music video 'Faceshopping' was all about skin, commodification of body and being separated into different parts, and that all felt thematically and spiritually connected."
SOPHIE passed away in January of last year after a fall at home in Athens, Greece. The late star's brother subsequently revealed he is working on completing a number of projects left behind by his sister.
