Michelle Branch domestic assault charge dismissed by state of Tennessee
The singer was arrested and charged after an alleged physical altercation with her husband, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys.
The State of Tennessee has dropped its domestic assault case against Michelle Branch, Billboard and Consequence report. Branch was accused of hitting her husband, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys.
The incident in question took place on August 11, the same day Branch accused Carney of cheating in a since-deleted tweet. Nashville police responded to a call describing a domestic disturbance at the residence Branch and Carney shared with their two children.
According to reports, Branch told police she slapped Carney "one or two times" in the face. Carney reportedly gave police a similar statement, though he allegedly did not sustain any visible injuries at the time. Branch was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and released the same day on $1,000 bond.
Four days later, Branch filed for divorce. She issued a statement to People soon after: “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
