Héloïse Adélaïde Letissier’s beloved and innovative pop alias Christine and the Queens is in a new era, and it’s titled Christine and the Queens present Redcar. The upcoming project Redcar les adorables étoiles (prologue) is out on November 11, and his new direction has yielded the captivating singles “Je te vois enfin“ and “rien dire,” a Song You Need. Today, another single called “la chason du chevalier” is out.
Like “Je te vois enfin,” “la chason du chevalier” strikes an effortlessly stylish groove with coldwave’s sparseness and haunting, synth-y atmosphere. It sounds like something perfect for smoking indoors while wearing shades and a leather jacket, but lyrically, Christine sounds like he’s describing a divine vision, opening the song with “He’s all broken / Fallen from the stars / He seems defenseless and I’m gone / Haunting the surroundings / He speaks quietly of things.” In the song’s music video, streaming below, Christine dances around a studio filled with objects on loan from the auction house Sotheby’s. He puts on an engaging show despite an obvious limp — likely the same dance injury that forced the delay of Redcar‘s release. Check it out below.
