Last year indie rock band Wednesday shared "Bull Believer," an nine-minute epic that positioned the band as both impressively ambitious and intimate storytellers alike. Today the band have confirmed details of a new studio album, Rat Saw God. The record is due April 7 via Dead Oceans (home to Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, and Japanese Breakfast among others). Lead single "Chosen To Deserve" is streaming below. Additionally, Wednesday have announced a huge tour that will take them across North America and into Europe throughout the first half of this year.
Speaking in a statement, Wednesday's Karly Hartzman says "Chosen To Deserve" is, "a writing exercise I gave myself to try to recreate the iconic song by Drive-By Truckers 'Let There Be Rock' but with my own experiences from growing up and fucking around and getting into stupid shit. The video directed by Spencer Kelly shows the setting of my upbringing and antics: my parents' neighborhood in Greensboro, NC and Lake Myers RV Resort."

Rat Saw God will be Wednesday's fifth album and their first since Mowing the Leaves Instead of Piling 'em Up, a 2022 covers album featuring their take on songs by Smashing Pumpkins and Gary Stewart among others. Prior to that they released Yep Definitely, (2018), I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone (2020) and Twin Plagues (2021). Guitarist MJ Lenderman released his solo album Boat Songs last year, too.
