Watch Lil Yachty play several Let’s Start Here songs for the first time at Rolling Loud Cali
Yachty was joined at the SoFi Stadium by an all-woman band.
Rolling Loud hit California this weekend and, while there were plenty of noteworthy appearances including Ice Spice, Larry June, and Luh Tyler among others, it was Lil Yachty who had the must-see set. Yachty was making one of his first big performances since releasing Let's Start Here in January. That album, which leans into psych rock and other guitar-leaning sounds has divided listeners; some appreciate Yachty experimenting with a new sound while others are uncomfortable with a rapper suggesting that the project is his attempt at being taken seriously as an artist.
Yachty acknowledged the debate about his music prior to appearing on stage, with a voiceover in which an unnamed man praised him for "not just doing the thing you're known for." Performing dressed in all-beige with several sticking plasters on his face, Yachty debuted several Let's Start Here songs alongside his all-woman band. The songs veered a little heavier than the blissed out vibe of the album, with "I've Officially Lost Vision!" starting with Yachty screaming down the microphone as his drummer went crazy on her kit. In total he played four songs from the record plus "Poland," the 2022 single that indicated Yachty was about to change things up. The second half of the set moved away from the new record as Yachty returned to his rap roots, busting out fan favorites including "iSpy" and Playboi Carti collaboration "Get Dripped."
