Mommy is out in August. Listen to “Worship The Whip” now.

May 31, 2023

Back in March Be Your Own Pet shared "Hand Grenade," their first new material since reforming in 2022 for a series of live dates. Today the band has confirmed that more new music is on the way with an album titled Mommy scheduled for an August 25 release. It will be Be Your Own Pet's first album since they released Get Awkward in 2008.

"Mommy is the bitch in charge, the one in control," lead singer Jemina Pearl Abegg says in a statement of the new album. "It’s a reclamation of myself." As for "Worship The Whip," the song deals with right-wing authoritarian figures, people who Pearl describes as, "aggressive and domineering to people who don’t think like them, while at heart being a submissive to the authority figures who use and abuse them."

Be Your Own Pet will hit the road this Fall for their “Teenage Heaven” tour. The month-long run kicks off in Chapel Hill, NC on October 18 and concludes in Vancouver, BC on November 18. In between will be stops in Brooklyn for a show at Elsewhere on October 21 and at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on November 9. Tickets are on sale Friday, June 2 at 12 p.m. ET
