Anjimile has shared another taste of his upcoming album The King. "Father" deals with the way in which addiction challenges family relationships, with Anjimile singing "Are you still drinking? What were you thinking?" over delicately picked strings.

“I wrote this song with my parents in mind as a sort of gesture of appreciation and love for everything they did to try and support me before, during, and after I went to rehab and got sober in early 2016,” Anjimile says in a statement. “Thanks, mom and dad.”

The King is Anjimile's second album and the follow-up to 2020's Giver Taker. Contributions on the record come from Justine Bowe, Brad Allen Williams, Sam Gendel, and Big Thief's James Krivchenia.

"Father" follows the album title track, which was released last month. The King will be released on September 8 via 4AD. Anjimile will perform at Hopscotch Music Festival and POP Montreal that same month.
