Billie Eilish announces Barbie song “What Was I Made For”
The track is out July 13 at 7 a.m. PT.
The soundtrack for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has attracted a veritable Dream House of talent, with contributions from Charli XCX (“Speed Drive“), PinkPantheress (“Angel“), and Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj (the Aqua-sampling “Barbie World“) already out. Those songs are a lot of fun, but the movie’s trailer suggests a plot that is at least in part an existential Hero’s Journey into What It Means To Be Barbie™. To that end, we’ve got a previously unannounced contribution to the soundtrack from Billie Eilish: a song called “What Was I Made For?” It’s out July 13 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. EDT, and judging from the title, it’ll be perfect for both humans and dolls to curl up into a ball and ponder excruciatingly significant questions to.
Billie Eilish’s most recent album, Happier Than Ever, was released in July 2021. This year, she appeared with Labrinth on his song “Never Felt So Alone” and guested on Donald Glover’s Amazon Prime thriller series Swarm.
