Scott was scheduled to perform at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 28 to celebrate the release of his fourth studio album Utopia. The concert was officially canceled on July 26 due to "complex production issues," according to a statement from Live Nation. The week prior, a Cairo-based organization called the Musicians' Syndicate refused to grant a permit to Scott to perform at the Pyramids, claiming his music was a threat to Egyptian culture. Rome's Circus Maximus shares its name with a short film Scott released the day before Utopia. It's directed by Scott with assistance from Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine, Valdimar Jóhannsson, and Kahlil Joseph.
