Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson shares new book and rare public statement

Bill Watterson, cartoonist and creator of children's comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, has come out of retirement after 27 years. The author, alongside caricaturist John Kascht, has just released a new book, The Mysteries, which is described as "a fable for grown-ups" on the Simon and Schuster website.

Boasting an eerie black and white cover featuring a man in an abandoned cabin in the forest with bulging eyes creepily looking at something out-of-frame, we can already tell it will be completely opposite to the beloved comic. The description reads, "A long-ago kingdom is afflicted with unexplainable calamities. Hoping to end the torment, the king dispatches his knights to discover the source of the mysterious events. Years later, a single battered knight returns."

Watterson and Kascht collaborated on The Mysteries for several years and discovered new ways of creating images for the new book outside of their usual methods.
