Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White wrestle expectations in The Iron Claw trailer
The Von Erich wrestling family movie opens in December
The first trailer for the forthcoming A24 movie The Iron Claw has been released. The movie stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White as '80s WWE wrestling brothers Kevin and Kerry Von Erich, a.k.a. The Golden Warrior and The Texas Tornado. The siblings were part of a wrestling dynasty with the movie charting their rise in the industry and the internal family dynamic involving their demanding father, Fritz Von Erich (played by Holt McCallany).
The Iron Claw also stars Triangle of Sadness actor Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, and Lily James among others. It was written and directed by Sean Durkin, whose films include Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Nest.
Photographs taken during production on The Iron Claw revealed the extent to which the cast, particularly Efron and White, beefed up to take on their respective roles. Speaking to Esquire, White explained how difficult he found the "gross diet" required to get into the physical shape demanded of the part.
"[I was] eating all the time. Like, never stopping,” White said "In the morning, I would have waffles, almond butter. In the middle of the day, I was eating turkey patties and avocado all the time. It’s really just gross. You’re trying to consume as much as you possibly can, and, to be honest, you don’t feel great. I was training as well, but, I don’t know, trying to get that big, it’s no way to live."
The Iron Claw opens in theaters on December 22. Check out the trailer below.
