Brittany Howard has announced What Now, the second solo album from the band leader of the acclaimed blues rock group Alabama Shakes. The album doesn’t have an official release date yet, but its lead single and title track drop today.
“What Now” is a brooding and vengeful post-disco track co-produced by Howard and Shawn Everett. Howard calls it “maybe the truest and bluest of all the songs” in a press statement.
“It’s never my design to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I needed to say what was on my mind without editing myself,” she continues. “I like how it’s a song that makes you want to dance, but at the same time the lyrics are brutal.”
In the music video, directed by Danilo Parra, Howard takes on the role of a guitar-playing cyberpunk, shredding while some superheroes battle it out for supremacy. Watch that below and scroll down for Howard’s upcoming tour dates with L’Rain and Becca Mancari.
