Grandaddy have confirmed details of their first album in seven years. Blu Wav will be released on February 16 next year and will feature the single "Watercooler." You can find a video for the new song below.
Press materials note that the album title is a mash-up of "bluegrass" and "new wave," with Jason Lyttle explaining that "there’s an inordinate amount of pedal steel" on the record. 7 of the 13 tracks on the album are referred to as being "waltzes," so fans of the lo-fi, sci-fi indie rock can expect something a little different this time out.
Speaking about the new song in a statement, Lyttle said: "Most of my relationships have involved girls who worked in office settings. This song is about the end of one, or perhaps a few, of those relationships. Listeners will also notice the pedal steel on this track and eventually on many others from the forthcoming new album. It’s a first for Grandaddy, and I couldn't be more thrilled about this fact."
Grandaddy's most recent album is 2017's Last Place. They recently celebrated 20 years of the 2003 album Sumday. An anniversary release, titled Sumday Twunny was released as a limited edition four LP box set in September.
