Nardwuar was hanging out at Camp Flog Gnaw this past weekend and caught up with the festival's main draw, Tyler, The Creator. Shortly after his interview with Tyler was posted on Thursday, a clip in which the musician criticzes his fellow artists for appearing on platforms such as Hot Ones and Sneaker Shopping went viral.
"We're at a point where a musician [can be] talking in detail about music and people are like 'why does he keep doing that?'," Tyler tells Nardwuar. "But if I was on here gossiping people would feed into it. We need to get back to talking about music. We need to stop fucking going sneaker shopping or deep-throating chicken wings for an hour."
It's probably best not to think too hard about Tyler being interviewed by Nardwuar, whose clips regulalrly go viral, and rallying against others who do similar things elsewhere, but his point is simple: let musicians talk about the music they have created. It's a message we can all get behind.
Tyler jumped online on Friday to clarify one point, too. The Hot Ones stray he let off wasn't meant with any malice. "It comes off as having so much disdain towards the show, which I don't," he wrote. "Sean [Evans] you didn't really deserve the energy that comes off. Wasn't my intention at all."
