Taylor Swift’s music banned by Philly station until Eagles-Chiefs game
Q102 has a moratorium on Swift’s music thanks to her romance with the Kansas City Chief’s Travis Kelce.
A Philadelphia radio station has put a moratorium on Taylor Swift’s music until after the Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch, Q102 host Nugget told CBS News Philadelphia late last week, stating the top 40 station was “punting Taylor Swift from the radio station for the entire weekend.”
“Because while Q102 loves Taylor Swift, we can't get enough of her, this weekend it's really important we show our support for the Birds,” he said, referring to the city’s beloved Eagles. However, Swift should be able to return to the airwaves starting Tuesday, November 21.
The decision is probably due to Swift’s highly publicized romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, despite the Pennsylvania native’s father being a longtime Eagles fan. On evermore, she’s also hinted at being an Eagles fan herself, singing about being the proud owner of an Eagles shirt on her song “Gold Rush.” Even so, Swift has become a regular attendee at Chiefs games, where she’s often seen enthusiastically cheering for Kelce.
But according to Vanity Fair, the “Lover” singer won’t be at tonight’s game. On Friday, November 17, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado died while attending Swift’s Eras tour in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Benevides Machado reportedly fainted in the open-air venue, where fans weren’t allowed to bring water bottles despite a record-breaking heatwave. She later went into cardiac arrest and passed away.
In response to the tragedy, Swift announced that she was postponing her Saturday night concert for safety reasons via Instagram, adding that she was “devastated” by the news and likely wouldn’t “be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it.” Instead, Swift dedicated a performance of her ballad “Bigger Than The Whole Sky” during her rescheduled performance on Sunday night.
Her third show in Rio de Janiero is now taking place on Monday, November 20, according to a tweet from concert promoter Time For Fun.
