Nearly a fifth of the American public believes Taylor Swift is part of a conspiracy to get President Biden reelected, according to a Monmouth University poll. When asked if they “think that a covert government effort for Taylor Swift to help Joe Biden win the presidential election actually exists,” 18% of 902 respondents answered affirmatively.
A breakdown of that number: 71% identified as Republicans, 83% said they were likely to vote for Donald Trump this fall, and 73% believed the results of the 2020 Trump-Biden presidential election were fraudulent. Notably, 42% of those who said they thought the Swift “PSYOP” existed were not among the 46% of pollees who had heard of the conspiracy beforehand.
“The supposed Taylor Swift PSYOP conspiracy has legs among a decent number of Trump supporters. Even many who hadn’t heard about it before we polled them accept the idea as credible,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, is quoted as saying in the newly published report. “Welcome to the 2024 election.”
Elsewhere in the poll, 68% of respondents (88% of Democrats, 71% of independents, and 42% Republicans questioned) said they approved of Swift’s ostensibly neutral voter turnout campaign.
Taylor Swift, whose 2023 project Midnights won Album of the Year at the Grammys earlier this month, has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since roughly the start of the ’23–’24 NFL season. The new Monmouth poll did not address another popular component of the Swift PsyOp theory: that the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win last Sunday was planned (because all major sporting events are rigged) by the government to provide Swift with a platform (because she didn’t have one beforehand) to announce her endorsement of Biden.
As of now, Swift seems more intent on promoting her forthcoming album The Tortured Poets Society, which she announced during her AOTY acceptance speech, than fixing the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
