Since the dissolution of his groundbreaking electronic duo Daft Punk in 2021, Thomas Bangalter has stuck with scoring. Last year saw the release of Mythologies, an orchestral suite written for a ballet, and today he shares the soundtrack to DAAAAAALÍ!, a film from French director and musician Quentin Dupieux a.k.a. Mr. Oizo.
The new release consists of two songs: a title track, and an extended version called "ÂGE RÉEL." Both are catchy and effervescent Spanish guitar compositions that are pretty far from what you might expect from Bangalter. That's the point, according to Pedro Winter, owner of Dupieux's record label Ed Banger: "Stepping out of his comfort zone, Thomas used only an ancient zither and recorded it in his Parisian studio. He delivered this repetitive theme from the 1930s that gets directly into your head and perfectly aligns with the surreal vision of this brilliant director. This record celebrates the golden age of music and cinema, with the director and composers all sharing a love for classic and timeless film scores."
