On Saturday evening, following reports of Amy Winehouse’s death, MIA posted a track—recorded before the release of her Vickileekx mixtape but never before shared—to Twitter and a Soundcloud page. She wrote that the song, an account of a tender relationship with a suffering addict (You're still high but the winter set in/ I bought you a coffee and a muffin) was, "dedicated to all my friends that died at 27."
On Sunday afternoon, Big Boi offered another previously unreleased tribute. The patient, deep bass-ache-n-twinkle take on "Tears Dry On Their Own" is heartbreaking. It provides an excellent opportunity to treasure her work anew. Amy Winehouse's singing was great, but this is such a shitty way to be reminded.
