Reverent Smif-n-Wessun sample notwithstanding, Bryant Dope feels like a traditional New York rapper in a way that many of the younger guys don't. He seems almost completely uninterested in choruses, and instead favors knotty clumps of words and empty threats that still manage to sound pretty cool. This sort of rap often gets lost in the margins or pushed aside in favor of catchier hits—and that's okay! But sometimes it's nice to walk around the city, listening to ominous smack-you-in-your-nose-bone verses over gothic organ runs and classic rap samples. Appropriately, the video is just Dope rapping against a white background in a boxing robe, not sure it needs to be anything more.
