Oakland indie rocker Jackson Phillips, a.k.a. Day Wave, has a 7" titled Come Home Now dropping November 6 via House Arrest Records. The b-side from that release, "You Are Who You Are," premieres on The FADER today, and it twinkles and jangles with great charm. While at first it may seem muted, it subtly worms its way into your subconscious until you're quoting it without even realizing it. The result is perfect credit sequence music: hazy enough to reminisce over a late-summer romance, but sad enough to listen to as you trudge home through the sleet and snow. It's up to the listener to decide whether these are the opening or the closing credits.
"Sometimes you need to accept people for who they are, rather than hoping they’ll be who you want them to be or do what you want them to do," Phillips wrote in an email to The FADER. "‘You Are Who You Are’ is somewhat of a reminder to myself to accept or embrace other people’s flaws instead of trying to change them."
Day Wave are currently touring alongside Albert Hammond Jr of the Strokes, an experience Phillips has described as being "so rad." If you want more, check out his Headcase EP and keep an eye out for Come Home Now.
