On March 4, Oakland's Jackson Phillips, a.k.a. Day Wave, will follow-up his dreamy debut EP Headcase with a new collection of songs called Hard To Read.
"I actually wrote a few of the songs on Hard To Read for Headcase," Phillips explained in an email to The FADER. "But I wanted to hold on to them for my second EP because I think they show some evolution for Day Wave."
The singer/songwriter also shared "Gone," the first single from his new project and "the final track made for this release." "I think it really rounds off the EP and is a good introduction to Hard To Read," he noted. On "Gone," linear patterns of warm bass overlap with bright guitars, '80s post punk filtered through more recent bands like Beach Fossils. The lyrics allude to miscommunication—you think I'm still the same in every single way, but I changed—and of course, absence: I feel this way alone.
