PJ—a seasoned songwriter who has penned hits for the likes of Meek and Wiz who is now a pop artist in her own right—wonders what life would be like if she played less agreeably on "Gangster," the first single off her forthcoming project Rare, out March 18. What would happen if she didn't smile when she gets cutoff in traffic when she's already running late or when she's starving but been served the wrong order at lunch?

I really want to be the type that take shit from no one, she comes to conclude. I'd rather be gangster, seems like the gangster shit is so much more fun.

And it's true—PJ really is this easygoing person she's singing about. "'Gangster' is basically my life's story," she explained in an note to The FADER about the song. "I have a habit of always being the nice guy, biting my tongue, and dealing with a lot of B.S.”
