Timberlake infamously performed at the halftime show in 2004 alongside Janet Jackson, causing controversy and outrage when he pulled off part of her costume to reveal her breast during the show. Following the incident, the Federal Communications Commission implemented a five-second broadcast delay.

The pop star also made an appearance in a Bai Antioxidant Infusions water commercial during the 2017 Super Bowl. The ad spot featured Christopher Walken performing a dramatic reading of NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye.”
