ShittyBoyz, the Detroit-based trio of BabyTron, TrDee, and StanWill, have announced their next album, Trifecta 2. The project is set to arrive August 5, less than six months after Trifecta’s first installment dropped in February, via The Hip Hop Lab and EMPIRE. Along with the announcement, they’ve shared the record’s lead single, “Slam Dunk Contestants.”
The new song finds the three recovering scam rappers passing the rock around over a sped-up, cinematic string sample and a simple, speaker-knocking drum line. TrDee goes first, getting straight to business with a no-nonsense opening verse. “You ain’t never had to strap yo nuts on / If she don’t text you back, she prolly gettin’ fucked on,” he begins, throwing down the gauntlet for StanWill, who enters next with an equally hard, equally brief run of setups and punchlines. Tron takes the buzzer shot before the half, after which Dee picks up right where he left off, and the sequence repeats.
Each verse is eight bars and about 20 seconds long, calling back to the cypher-emulating posse cuts of yore. Each ShittyBoy takes two verses, and there are no hooks or breaks in their fluid offense. “Caught an opp and turned his whitey-tighties into green undies / This life’s shit up and down, you gon’ need bungees / I’m startin’a think I’m kinda slow ’cause all I think’s money / Blue, green, and pink money,” Tron finishes, and the beat fades without fanfare.
