Oddball Manhattan Landmark 190 Bowery on Its Way Out :-(
We knew it couldn't last, but it's amazing how long it did. Wedged between galleries and boutique eateries, the 72-room, graffiti-covered 190 Bowery mansion was a long-standing structural reminder of a grittier, grimier Lower Manhattan, a place you may or may not be old enough to remember. Now, according to Gawker and the Times, the developer who bought it (the property was famously owned by photographer Jay Maise since 1966) has plans to turn it into a condominium or offices or something.
