Villanova Upset UNC At The Buzzer, And The Internet Reacted Accordingly
The memes and Vines rained from the skies as ‘Nova stunned Carolina.
On Monday night, Villanova beat North Carolina to win the NCAA National Championship. And that is nuts. Talent-rich UNC was heavily favored: as the Wall Street Journal writes, "Every title team in the past two decades had a first-round NBA draft pick on its roster. Villanova is now the likely exception." More importantly was the manner in which 'Nova did it: with a buzzer-beating three from Kris Jenkins that negated a bonkers long-distance bomb from Carolina's Marcus Paige just seconds before. Instantly, it became one of the most iconic moments in college hoops history.
Summarily, the internet had its say.
To his credit, Michael Jordan, famed UNC alumni, kept his cool: he calmly turned to NBA Inside Stuff's very own Ahmad Rashad, and just said "good shot."
But, as always, tweets > facts. And so the Crying Jordan grew ever stronger and mightier.
Anyway, Jordan's buddy Chuck loved it.
As did this fun bro.
And the very endearing 'Nova student announcer.
As for Villanova coach Jay Wright—he taught us about composure. And about saying "bang" at the right exact moment.
BTW:
Of course, while we're here:
Alright. Congrats 'Nova! You kids go have fun now.
