Jam Master Jay’s murder investigation declared a cold case

The Queens DJ’s death remains unsolved.

Nearly 15 years after Jam Master Jay was murdered, the police has classified his case as a cold case, Associated Press reports.

Despite witnesses in the room at the time, New York City police have no new leads on the case. Jam Master Jay was killed on October 30, 2002, inside of his Queens recording studio, where he mentored up-and-coming local artists, including 50 Cent.

According to reports at the time, two armed men were buzzed into the studio that night. Police say they were at least four other people were also present at the time of the shooting, but none of them provided information that led to breaks in the case.

Jam Master Jay's DJing can be heard on Run-DMC hits like “King of Rock,” ″It’s Tricky,” and the remix of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.” In 2009, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
