Taylor Swift has announced that her new single “Lover,” the third official single from her upcoming record of the same name, will be out this Friday August 16th. She announced the news while accepting the first Icon Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, held on Hermosa Beach in California. The Icon Award trophy was, er, actually a surfboard with Swift’s three cats on it. “There’s so much I’m excited about in the next 12 days until my album Lover comes out,” the singer told fans during her acceptance speech. “On the 16th, I have a new song called “Lover” that’s coming out, and I’m so excited.”
In her acceptance speech, Swift gave a shoutout to the women’s soccer team (“While they were winning the World Cup, they were also taking a historic stand in terms of gender equality!”) and also gave a message to teens, saying “One thing I wish I would’ve known as a teen is mistakes are inevitable.” Watch the full speech below.
