There will always be a special place in my heart for MGMT, who changed pop music with their debut album Oracular Spectacular, followed it up with one of the best and most underrated albums of the current decade in 2010's Congratulations, then proceeded to spend the next nine years refusing to chase their initial success and doing whatever they felt like. That's why I refuse to apply the cliche of "return to form" to their most recent album Little Dark Age, but they haven't made music so initially approachable in a minute. Today, MGMT are back with a new song called "In the Afternoon," and an accompanying music video. It's the band's first-ever independent release on their just-formed MGMT Records. The song recalls Echo & The Bunnymen with just a touch more LSD. Check it out above. "In The Afternoon" appears on an upcoming 12" of the same name, with a B-side called "As You Move Through The World." It's out March 2020, and available to pre-order here.
