Police in Indianapolis, Indiana arrested a man on Saturday night (January 8) after he made a bomb threat while waiting in line at a Doja Cat concert. The Indianapolis Star and Billboard report that the man was detained ahead of Doja Cat's appearance at Monument Circle. Police confirmed to the Star that the unnamed man told those around him that he had an explosive device in his backpack in an effort to get closer to the front of the line.
A police spokesperson clarified that, upon inspection, the man's backpack was clean but he was arrested on previous warrants. The start of the concert, taking place as part of celebrations ahead of Monday’s College Football Playoff national championship, was delayed but went ahead as planned.
A further statement from Indianapolis police on Twitter reads: “Nearby witnesses told police the individual said he had an explosive on him,” the statement reads. “IMPD officers responded, searched his bag and did not find an explosive. The man had unrelated outstanding warrants and was immediately arrested for those.”
