midwxst drops better luck next time EP, shares “step back” video
The new tape follows his 2021 projects SUMMER03, BACK IN ACTION, and BACK IN ACTION 2.0.
midwxst has shared his fourth EP, better luck next time. Like its predecessors — 2020's Secrets and three 2021 projects: SUMMER03, BACK IN ACTION, and BACK IN ACTION 2.0 — the new tape is a quick and convincing display of the 18-year-old Indiana rapper-singer's talent and versatility.
Like his hyperpop peers ericdoa, Slump6s, KA$HDAMI, and glaive — the latter of whom he toured with earlier this year — midwxst takes a post-genre approach to music, owing as much of his sound to early-aughts pop-punk as to hip-hop from any era. His new video for late-album track "step back" is a similar mash-up of new and old, featuring sleek shots courtesy of Daniel Jordan K paired with teen-movie tropes like high school bathrooms and protests-turned-parties.
