Sean Paul takes life as it comes on “No Fear”
It’s the fifth single from the dancehall icon’s eighth studio album, Scorcha, dropping May 27 via Island Records.
Sean Paul has too many hits to count. Since the release of his massively successful sophomore album Dutty Rock in 2002, his voice has been a staple of dancehall, the reggae offshoot he helped usher into the 21st century. Last month, the Kingston, Jamaica native announced his eighth studio LP, Scorcha, and shared its lead single, "How We Do It" featuring Pia Mia. The album will also include three previously released cuts: 2020's "Calling On Me" featuring Tove Lo, as well as last year's "Only Fanz" featuring Ty Dolla $ign and "Dynamite" featuring Sia. Today's he's premiering "No Fear," Scorcha's second new offering, with The FADER.
On the new song, Paul recruits reggae legend Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and reggaeton star Nicky Jam, both of whom contribute to a sound that's smooth and breezy but still actively engaging. True to the track's title, the trio projects pure confidence, as well as a willingness to roll with whatever punches are thrown their way. "Ya can try kill a man, ya can't kill him, my dear / So say the great Che Guevar[a]," Paul sings early on. "Ina my town where me grow, ya can't have no fear."
