Gabe ’Nandez recorded his April 2023 EP Pangea (premiered by The FADER last month) at the peak of COVID lockdown in 2020. Now, the New York rapper has returned with his first completely new music of the year. Where his previous album focused (appropriately) on worldly concerns, his new single looks outside Earth’s atmosphere for answers.
“Venus in Mercury,” out today (June 21) via Jeff Weiss’ POW Recordings, finds the densely lyrical MC cruising comfortably over a smooth, boom-bap beat by Tel Aviv-born producer Argov, letting his gruff bars flow out at a more relaxed pace than usual. In the song’s music video, courtesy of Mexico City-based director Losmose, ’Nandez wanders among stone ruins framed by a mountain range as the sun sets, looking fully at peace. Watch the clip above.
