Irreversible Entanglements have joined Impulse! Records. Protect Your Light, their first album with the historic jazz label — following three towering LPs released on International Anthem — is due out September 8. To celebrate the signing, the experimental quintet have shared the record’s lead single and opening track, “Free Love.”
The new song features all the hallmarks of an IE classic: a slippery bass line from Luke Stewart, frisky drumming from Tcheser Holmes, riotous flurries from the group’s two-man brass section of Aquiles Navarro (trumpet) and Keir Neuringer (sax), and quietly potent spoken-word poetry from Camae Ayewa (a.k.a. Moor Mother).
