Just when we thought The FADER’s Drake week had finally drawn to a merciful close, he’s pulled us back in with some shocking news. Citing severe stomach issues, the “Slime You Out” rapper has announced that he’ll be taking a year-long sabbatical from making music after fulfilling a few standing obligations.
The comments came during the third episode of his SiriusXM radio show, Table For One. “I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach, I’m just saying what it is,” he said. “I got some other things I need to do for some other people that I made promises to but I probably won’t make music for a little bit, I’m gonna be real with you.”
For the past decade, it’s seemed like new Drake has been lurking around every corner, as The FADER’s Nadine Smith noted today (October 6) in an essay on Aubrey’s mid-’10s remix run. Now, there’s a possibility that we may witness our longest Drakeless run since his character was cut from Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2009.
“I need to get right. I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on,” he said on his Sirius show. “So I’ma lock the door on the studio for a little bit, I don’t even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or so, maybe a little longer.”
Luckily, lovers of Champagne Papi have plenty of content to tide them over, with his eighth studio LP, For All The Dogs, out today. 23 tracks long with 10 featured guests, it’s given us much to chew on.
In addition to Nadine’s essay, The FADER’s staff has worked around the clock to produce a smörgåsbord of Drake content for all you fans out there. Read about our 100 favorite Drake songs, our mutuals’ favorite Drake songs, and the most thought-provoking moments on For All The Dogs
