DIIV have shared a new song, sort of. The Zachary Cole Smith-fronted outfit’s first release since their 2022 “offiicial bootleg” album, Live at the Murmrr — and their first new music since 2019’s Deceiver — “Soul Net” is exclusively available to stream on a Web 1.0-core site of the same name.
Upon entering the site, you’ll be greeted by a maelstrom of vaguely spiritual messaging and imagery, peppered with conspiracy theories like “The military industrial complex picking and choosing what is cool where to go, what food to buy?” Across the bottom of your browser, though, you’ll see a nine-minute audio clip with a play button and progress marker apparently carved from paleolithic stone. The song proper begins just after the one-minute mark and ends around 5:15, surrounded by glacial drones and capped off with an alleged “subliminal persuasion recording” near the end.
